My sound art album <I•Mirror> which is based on Second Life, a online 3D virtual world’s soundscapes, now is re-mastered and released in Post-Concrete’s Archival Vinyl Series. I produced <I•Mirror> in last year and the three tracks are originally stored in limited edition vPod – in essence, a daoban [pirated] iPod shuffle(See the pic here: http://www.post-concrete.com/vinyl/pics/AV007bs.jpg). Also, v-pod sound project is part of the Cao Fei’s "China Tracy Pavilion" Second Life project, which was exhibited in last year’s 52th Venice Biennale.
Thanks for Dajun Yao(the boss of Post Concrete label)’s excellent remaster and creative ARCHIVAL VINYL release idea, now I could share <I•Mirror> with more friends now!

最近正在召开的两个虚拟世界会议
(1)第一个会议是行业重要的研究和预测组织Metaverse Roadmap的每年思想峰会。是一个闭门会议。目前已经结束。该会已经结束,虽然部分现场文字报道和直播可以在Virtual Worlds News网站上看到,但内容并不引人入胜。按照惯例,未来几个月,就能看到该组织基于峰会出版的免费的报告。这个才是值得期待的。
不过,CNet有关此次会议的一个报道倒是有些价值,就是Raph Koster的发言。主要观点是目前整个3D虚拟世界行业仍然是在发展之中,而商业压力迫使更多的钱和虚拟世界加快集中在娱乐应用,Koster说今年将有更多的虚拟世界是属于Kid‘s Worlds,因为用户和市场更加容易打开。而Koster也关注今后几年,商业压力讲怎样使得虚拟世界行业发生改变。
Koster所讲的已经是在发生中的事实。如果结合KZero在前段时间发布的虚拟世界注册人数图来看,目前大量的用户人口集中10-20岁之间的2D-2.5D虚拟世界,包括Club Penguin,Habbo Hotel,还有Gaia Online等。而侧重娱乐(包括音乐、视频、社交等)的3D虚拟世界,用户增长也相对迅速。更多的年轻人在2D的虚拟世界,这是世界不需要创造,用户门槛底,有更好的内容管制,家长更放心。相比之下,SL这样的平台的用户群年龄相对较大,内容等社区管制问题更大。
08年是虚拟世界的相对安静的一年,这个安静是相对07年的媒体轰炸而言。整个行业仍然在起步阶段,但08年可以预见的是,industry中的很多segments要开始发育起来,各种不同方向的虚拟世界应用讲得到极大发展,尤其在娱乐,教育和企业应用方面。也就是说,针对商业应用的探索,将率先展开。有兴趣的可以去关注一下VC们的钱都投到哪里去了。前端时间在接受采访的时候,Linden Lab的Ginsu谈到了平台,白标签产品(white
label,可以提供给企业和个人自定义的虚拟世界)和成长中的虚拟世界。同样认为08年行业的segments
开始逐步明确,行业蛋糕越做越大。当然,SL认为自己也正在提供同样的白标签解决方案,同时还能与SL上千万的用户联通起来,有自己的优势。
某种程度上来说,SL代表的是一个可能的3D grid 互联网架构,尤其在内容自主生产上和相关理念上,更代表了未来。但人们对3D虚拟环境的应用需求,是分层次的,分轻重缓急的。在SL代表的模式用户门槛过高的情况下,其他各种层次的应用纷纷出现,是非常正常的事情。
(2)另一个会议是16th-17th在stanford大学召开的Metaverse U Conference。都是业界精英头脑云集的会议。包括SL的VP Ginsu Yoon,Jerry Paffendorf ,Raph Koster, Cory Ondrejka, Howard Rheingold,Christian Renaud,还有HiPiHi去年斯坦福之行拜访过的教授Vladlen Koltun。据网站上的介绍,会后该会的视频会上传供人免费观看,以扩大会议的影响。
目前在virtual worlds news还有Raph Koster的网站上,可以看到该会议的纪要。还在召开之中。我还没有来得及仔细看内容。等会议完了再来写写吧。
